[Convenience Store Lunchbox Review] CU Overwhelming Soboro Jeyuk Hansang

Hello! Today, I will introduce CU’s new lunchbox menu. It’s a pasta + rice combination menu released as a new lineup of the Overwhelming Series, Overwhelming Soboro Pork Set. This is a newly introduced menu as part of a major overhaul of the Overwhelming Series! Unlike the existing Overwhelming concept, it is one of two full-course lunchbox menus that offer both fried rice and pasta. Today, I tried this second menu! Let’s find out what kind of menu it is!

CU Soboro Pork Set Price and Features

Last time, I reviewed the first menu, the Kimchi Fried Rice + Bulgogi Pasta combination ‘Overwhelming Bulgogi and Kimchi Set’! This time, I quickly purchased the Overwhelming Soboro Pork Set, which is a similar concept of egg fried rice + gochujang pork pasta menu. The price of this menu is also 5,900 won!

The concept is ‘A lunchbox with a whole ham on egg rice! Topped with spicy pork on addictive spicy pasta.’ In the previous menu, the pasta was soy sauce bulgogi, so it wouldn’t have been a big deal to change it to kimchi fried rice, but this time the pasta is gochujang pork, so they seem to have chosen egg fried rice as a safe option.

The total content of this menu is 396g, and the calorie content is 837Kcal, which is quite high. Sodium reaches 132% of the daily recommended intake. The calorie content is quite high compared to the content! Among the menus released as part of this year’s full-course lunchbox lineup, it seems to have the highest sodium content. It seems like it would be quite filling, but it might cause quite a thirst! Haha

CU Soboro Pork Set Overwhelming Composition

Let’s take a quick look at the composition! This menu, like the previous Bulgogi and Kimchi Set, consists of 2 main dishes and 3 side dishes. The types of side dishes are exactly the same.

First, one of the main dishes is the gochujang pork pasta. A similar pork pasta has already been released as a pasta menu at CU, so it doesn’t feel very original, but it is said that the pork included in the menu uses imported front leg meat. It seems like a menu that would go well with pasta with a moderately spicy taste!

The other main menu, fried rice, unlike the previous menu where they tried to recreate it with finely chopped kimchi and ham, seems to have been finished with ham on top of egg fried rice, perhaps because they judged the pork pasta to be stimulating on its own. If they had made it with kimchi fried rice, I wonder what the sodium content would have been…

Aside from the somewhat excessive sodium amount seen on the ingredient list, the overall composition or main menu combination, and each menu individually seem very safe. However, since it’s provided as a lunchbox, the feeling when eating each menu together is also important, right? Let’s taste it right away!

CU Soboro Pork Set Overwhelming Taste

First, it was cooked in a 1000W microwave for 1 minute and 40 seconds! The pork pasta became a bit oily, making it easy to mix. Haha

I mixed the pasta right away and ate it! The meat oil and sauce melted in, making it well-mixed. This was similar to the previous menu, but when I took a bite, the taste was spicier than expected.

It wasn’t spicy enough to hurt my mouth or upset my stomach, but it was spicy enough to understand why they chose egg fried rice as the other menu. As a result, the combination with fried rice was a very good choice. Haha

Looking at the egg fried rice menu alone, it seemed mild, but it wasn’t unseasoned! Surprisingly, the combination of rice and ham was well-seasoned enough to eat on its own, so I could understand the sodium content to some extent! Haha Therefore, it is better to eat the pasta and rice alternately rather than together (…)

The other side dishes were also just suitable for accompanying the meal. However, they weren’t very appealing, haha. While eating the rice and pasta, you might think, “Oh, I should eat these too…” and that would be enough.

This menu also ended up being a menu eaten for the taste of the pasta sauce, but as a menu that CU has recently emphasized and released, they make pasta quite well, so the taste was certain. If you are aware that it might be a bit stimulating, you can enjoy it very deliciously! It was a menu worth recommending as a hearty meal!
