[Hamburger Review] McDonald's Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger, Double Pizza Burger - KOREAN FOOD REVIEW & RECIPE

The new McDonald’s menu item I am introducing today is a renewed re-release of the ‘Pepperoni Pizza Burger,’ which was launched to commemorate the 2022 World Cup! It’s the McDonald’s Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger and Pepperoni Double Pizza Burger. With the combination of pepperoni, pizza sauce, and McDonald’s beef patty, it was one of the unique menu items that quite a few people sought after! Due to consistent demand for its release, it has been renewed and released as a new menu item for this event! Let’s take a look at what kind of menu it is.

Price and Features of the Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger

I also reviewed this menu item in 2022! Thanks to the unique concept of the pepperoni burger, there were quite a few people hoping for its re-release (although a similar concept menu was released at ‘No Brand Burger’…), and it seems McDonald’s ambitiously prepared it as a new fall season menu. Especially with the collaboration with NCT Mark, there seem to be quite a few people wanting to try this menu even before its release!

This new menu includes two types: the Double Pizza Burger and the Mega Pizza Burger with 4 patties! Due to McDonald’s unique complex pricing system, I have summarized it in the table below.

Compared to its release in 2022, the price seems to have increased by about 500~800 KRW! Considering the inflation over the past three years, I hope the menu composition hasn’t decreased as much as the price has increased. I first ordered the Pepperoni Double Pizza Burger and the Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger as large sets for delivery!

Pepperoni Mega Burger Pizza Composition

Let’s take a quick look at the composition!? Last year’s 2022 menu used a soccer ball-shaped brioche burger bun called ‘Soccer Bun’! This time, it seems they used the sesame bun seen in the Big Mac! The size also seems almost the same or similar!

I first tried the Mega Pizza Burger, and the visual of the 4 patties really stands out! Haha, from the side, the large pepperoni and tomato are also noticeable.

We should carefully check the composition by cutting it in half… But with 4 patties, the balance of the burger is a bit unstable. When eating, it’s best not to unwrap it and hold it firmly.

From the top, it consists of lettuce, mayo sauce, tomato, pizza sauce, raw onion, pepperoni, patties with sliced cheese, and finally mayo sauce at the bottom!

It seems raw onion is included in this menu as well, and the composition itself is almost similar. It seems there’s nothing particularly missing! However, last time I had the 2-patty menu, and this time the satisfaction from the thickness of 4 patties is definitely different.

Hamburger Ingredient Combination Description

As I recall, with the addition of pizza sauce, pepperoni, and cheese, the overall taste was slightly salty! This time, with as many as 4 patties, it might be a bit better, haha. Let’s check out what it tastes like!

Pepperoni Mega Burger Pizza Taste

It’s definitely thick, making it a bit difficult to eat in one bite. It’s best to wrap it well like a hamburger when eating.

When you take a bite, depending on where you bite, you might first taste the tomato or the pepperoni! The tomato is a bit thick, so the taste of the patty and tomato, and the sauce and pepperoni are felt separately. That’s why balance is important in a hamburger!

As you get to the middle, the taste of vegetables, patties, pizza sauce, and pepperoni blend well, giving a somewhat pizza-like taste. Especially for those who like the umami of tomato sauce and the salty taste of pepperoni, there is a reason for the continuous requests for the menu’s re-release!

As a result, the taste is generally a bit salty. They tried to reduce the saltiness by adding mayo sauce on the top and bottom of the burger, but it seems a bit difficult with just that! Haha, also, the Mega Pizza Burger has as many as 4 patties, which can somewhat overshadow the taste of other ingredients.

Double Pepperoni Pizza Burger

I also tried a few bites of the Pepperoni Double Pizza Burger! If you want to really feel the combination of pizza sauce and pepperoni, I recommend this one more! The Mega Pizza Burger is quite large for one person and has a part where it doesn’t bring out the taste of other ingredients well… It might be a good choice for those who prioritize juiciness and satiety.

Try changing the onion to grilled onion! The taste of the tomato slice might feel a bit strong! If you think, ‘I’m eating this menu just for the pepperoni,’ removing the tomato might be a good choice. Although vegetables play a role in balancing the saltiness, you might truly taste the real flavor without the tomato! Haha

Overall, the Double Pizza Burger has a good balance of taste, sufficient quantity, and if you have it at the McLunch price, it seems quite cost-effective. Some new menu items were sometimes offered with free fries, but recently McDonald’s new menu items seem quite excellent! I enjoyed this menu too!
