Recently, the competition for 3,900 won rice bowl lunchboxes at convenience stores has been quite fierce. 7-Eleven has also introduced a 3,900 won rice bowl as a renewed menu to keep up with this trend. It seems like a menu I’ve seen a few times in the One Meal Research series before. Let’s check out what’s different right away.

3,900 Won Savory Chicken Mayo Rice Bowl Price and Features

As the competition for related menus has become so intense recently, 7-Eleven is surprisingly reviving a menu that was similarly released in the past but discontinued. This menu has been continuously renewed with slight changes, focusing on chicken karaage and teriyaki mayo sauce. It was 4,000 won during the One Meal Research era 2-3 years ago, but it is now sold at 3,900 won, 100 won less.

This menu has a total content of 372g and a calorie count of 705kcal, which is quite high for its price. As expected from a rice bowl menu, it contains a lot of rice, making it surprisingly hefty. The sodium level is about 67% of the daily recommended intake.

Let’s take a quick look at the composition. Due to other convenience store franchises, they probably had to force the price down a bit. When you open the packaging, you see chicken for the rice bowl, sauce, and pickled radish. A plastic spork is also included by default.

It seems that the original chicken mayo rice bowl included stir-fried kimchi instead of pickled radish, but now finely chopped pickled radish is included, possibly due to cost reduction or an actual menu change.

When it comes to chicken, karaage usually comes to mind, but 7-Eleven’s chicken mayo rice bowl menu has always used a nugget type made from minced meat. This menu is not particularly of lower quality. In fact, it seems to have more sauce than previous menus.

When you open the lid, you see the rice neatly placed. Simply spread the chicken mayo (including sauce) and pickled radish evenly on top of the rice, and cook it in the microwave. I cooked it for about 2 minutes in a 1000W microwave.

The cooked appearance looks like this. Although it looks a bit messy and unorganized, since it’s a menu where you scoop and eat the rice, sauce, and chicken together, I’ll organize it while eating.

Let’s taste it right away! I took a big bite with plenty of rice and sauce, and a piece of chicken. The familiar taste is the strongest, and the combination of teriyaki and mayo sauce with chicken nuggets makes it naturally addictive. Haha.

Convenience Store Lunchbox Review Collection

In summary, it’s a menu with a very well-established foundation, and considering the price of 3,900 won, it’s still a menu you can enjoy without any issues. However, the addition of pickled radish instead of the original kimchi fried rice gives it a slightly different texture and taste.

Honestly, as you eat it, you might think it’s all the same. It’s a menu with quite a strong sauce until you reach that stage. Kimchi or pickled radish helps to slightly reduce the greasy taste.

Overall, it’s a menu with a low price, providing moderate satiety and a plain taste. You can add a simple salad or an extra cup of ramen according to your preference!

If you’re looking for a quick meal to fill your stomach, this is a menu I can recommend without hesitation. You won’t feel like you’re losing out by eating it! I thought adding a small cup of ramen would make it a sufficient simple meal.
