Hello! The new menu from Papa John’s that I’m introducing today is a new item launched after a long time since the Starlight Basil in May. It’s a menu with beef ribs and BBQ sauce, BBQ Short Rib Crunch! While it has a somewhat similar composition to the existing BBQ pizza, it makes you expect something special because it’s Papa John’s! Let’s find out what kind of menu it is!

Price and Features of BBQ Short Rib Crunch
This menu is presented with the concept of ‘American Original BBQ sauce, juicy beef ribs, and crispy potato flakes.’ Papa John’s, which emphasizes American Original more than Pizza Hut, claims to have captured the taste of America better, so they’ve come up with a very American (though not really) menu!

For delivery, the basic large is 34,500 won, and the basic family is 41,900 won! I changed the edge to a cheese roll (+4,000 won/5,000 won) and kept the toppings and sauce the same. For reference, the delivery tip is 3,000 won, and I ordered it for a cheap 35,800 won with a 30% discount on Papa’s Day. The Papa’s Day discount cannot be applied in combination, so this seems to be the limit!

Composition of BBQ Short Rib Crunch
Let’s unbox it and check the composition right away. As soon as you open the pizza box, you can smell the rich pizza aroma and a slight grilled meat scent!

I didn’t expect much because beef ribs were used in this menu, but there are more meat toppings than expected. The BBQ sauce is not heavily applied, so it’s not easily visible from the top. Is it perhaps spread underneath instead of tomato sauce?

Another topping is potato flakes sprinkled on top like snow cheese, and considering the concept, it seems quite nice as it’s not overly excessive.

A total of four types of cheese are used, and onions are included as a basic topping, but they can be removed from the options. The composition is quite simple than expected!

Flavor of BBQ Short Rib Crunch
Since we’ve confirmed that the basic composition is quite simple yet very faithful to the concept, let’s check the taste. I took a slice and tasted it right away!

It was definitely a simple combination of pizza dough, cheese, bulgogi, and BBQ sauce rather than a taste of various ingredients together, with a subtle follow-up taste of potato and onion.

Personally, Papa John’s, which is one of the pizza franchises operating in Korea with quite tasty dough, has a pretty good basic taste even with a simple composition!

Since onions are included as a basic topping, the onion scent is more noticeable than expected. However, it’s not overwhelming, and it would have been perfect with a slight addition of mushrooms. It seems like it would go well with BBQ sauce.

By using BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce, the umami and savory taste are distinctly felt with the basic cheese. The sauce tends to be more distributed towards the edges rather than evenly spread, which might be due to a different cooking method than tomato sauce, or it could vary by store!

I tried about two slices of the family size, and it felt quite heavy, so I ate just one more slice and saved the rest. When enjoying such a simple menu, I tend to order the family size and freeze the leftovers to enjoy later, and I did the same this time.

Overall, it was a simple and filling menu without being excessive! Although limited to Papa’s Day, I felt the cost-effectiveness was decent! I think it’s a good menu to enjoy with a bit of indulgence using telecom discounts, etc.
