Hello! Today, I’m introducing CU’s new lunchbox menu, the returning Overwhelming Carbonara. It was released as Bacon Carbonara in the second half of 2024 and was discontinued for a while, but now it’s back as just Carbonara. Until early this year, unique concept fusion pasta menus were mainly released, but now it seems that the familiar pasta menu has reappeared. Let’s find out what kind of menu it is!

CU Carbonara’s Overwhelming Price and Features
It was a bit disappointing that the overwhelming Bacon Carbonara, which could be enjoyed in a generous portion, was discontinued, but now it has been re-released as regular Carbonara! At that time, the concept was 150% more than the existing amount, but this time it came out with ‘Plus Topping+’! The price is the same as the previous menu at 5,900 won.

The total content of this menu is 500g, with 709kcal and sodium at 129% of the daily recommended intake! The previous menu was 529g with 829kcal, so it seems the amount has slightly decreased. However, it’s a bit hard to understand why the sodium exceeds 100% ㅋㅋ (It was 94% before!) Perhaps they changed the sauce to make it saltier instead of slightly reducing the amount!

Although bacon was excluded from the menu name, it was eventually included because carbonara cannot be without bacon. Also, contrary to the debate that carbonara should be made with egg yolk, this sauce is made with 100% cream, milk, cheese, and butter, making it closer to ‘cream pasta’!

CU Carbonara Overwhelming Composition
Let’s briefly look at how the composition has changed from the Bacon Carbonara. In the previous menu, bacon was cut into large pieces, but this time finely chopped bacon was used!

I had a small expectation that seasoned bacon crumbles might be included due to the high sodium content, but it seems that’s not the case. Ground pepper is sprinkled on top of the slightly cooked appearance. Another small change is that black olives have been removed.

After simply cooking it in the microwave, I mixed it once! After mixing, it definitely looks like a classic cream pasta! ㅎㅎ It seems to be quite a lot, so let’s check out what it tastes like now!?

CU Intense Carbonara Taste
I took a bite right away! The taste was undoubtedly the perfect cream pasta taste. It was exactly the taste that comes to mind when we think of ‘regular cream sauce,’ with the right amount of bacon added, so there’s nothing more to add. ㅋㅋ
However, if I were to mention one feature, the umami taste is slightly enhanced among convenience store cream pastas! It’s hard to know exactly what ingredients are in it as it’s simply labeled as a scan cure, but as the umami taste increases, the saltiness seems to have slightly increased as well!

The degree of doneness of the noodles and the bacon topping blend well with the sauce, with no particularly noticeable drawbacks, making it a menu that anyone who likes cream pasta can enjoy deliciously and happily! The portion is generous, so there’s no need to say more! ㅎㅎ

However, you should consider that the menu can be a bit greasy, and since there are no pickles or jalapenos to accompany it, it might be a good idea to prepare a zero soda. I ate it all deliciously, but even though I’m good at eating greasy food, it got a bit overwhelming at the end ㅋㅋ

If you want a non-stimulating meal and like pasta, it was a menu that you could enjoy deliciously and heartily! At a price of 5,900 won, there was nothing particularly disappointing about the quality and quantity!
