[K-food Review] Snowfox Karaage Rice Bowl CU

Hello! Today, I will introduce CU’s new lunchbox menu, a convenience store lunchbox menu collaborated with the lunchbox franchise ‘Snow Fox’, the Snow Fox Karaage Rice Bowl. I remember seeing news that the global franchise Snow Fox sold all but the Korean branch! I haven’t had the chance to try it since it’s hard to find around, but it’s interesting to encounter it as a convenience store lunchbox. I was curious about the menu, so I bought it right away. Let’s find out what kind of menu it is!

Snow Fox Karaage Rice Bowl Price and Features

Explaining how the company Snow Fox reached its current situation is quite complex. Anyway, all global business divisions except Korea have been sold, and now it has become a franchise selling everything from cost-effective lunchboxes to premium lunchboxes (including sushi lunchboxes). It’s really interesting that such a company collaborated with CU. It must be important for brand promotion. Additionally, they simultaneously launched various menus such as sandwiches and gimbap.

This menu is a karaage rice bowl. Looking at the official Snow Fox website, it is not currently a menu item! However, it seems to be composed similarly to the meal boxes sold for around 6,000 won. It might be released as a regular menu item! The price is 5,300 won.

The total content is 333g, and the calorie count is 747kcal, with sodium at 405 of the daily recommended level, making it seem like a fairly light composition, but since it’s a rice bowl style with a lot of carbohydrates in the karaage, the calorie count isn’t particularly low! The karaage is a boneless type using Thai chicken, and the sauce seems to be the recently popular nanban sauce.

Since it’s a rice bowl menu, a spork is provided as standard, so there’s no need to request a spoon separately! I learned today that Snow Fox’s BI color is purple, and applying it to a convenience store lunchbox gives it a rather mysterious color…

Composition of Snow Fox Karaage Rice Bowl

Let’s take a look at the lunchbox composition! The first things that catch the eye are the karaage, nanban sauce, and mayo sauce. At first, I thought the quantity was quite large, but it was because the rice and the karaage to be placed on top were separated…

The quantity is not small. There is also a lot of sauce! Upon closer inspection, the mayo sauce is not just simple mayo sauce but has something mixed in, and there is also egg garnish included. It seems they are trying to give the impression that it is well-made within the price range.

When you separate the rice bowl container from the top, there is rice underneath. The cooking method is to place the karaage on top of the rice and cook it together in the microwave!

And externally, they used a paper container! Although it was occasionally used in existing rice bowl menus, this time they used white paper instead of kraft, and the production method seems a bit different from before! ㅎㅎ It might be preparation work for the next menu.

The cooking time is 1 minute and 30 seconds in a 1000W microwave! I carefully placed the karaage on top of the rice and cooked it. It went up smoothly in one go! ㅎㅎ

Taste of Snow Fox Karaage Rice Bowl

This is how it looks after cooking in the microwave! It looks quite like a decent rice bowl! ㅎㅎ Upon closer inspection, there were also some sautéed onions included besides the karaage and sauce.

Then I took a bite to taste it! I took a bit of rice, sauce, mayo sauce, and karaage to taste! The first flavor that hit was the slightly salty taste of the nanban sauce!

The karaage itself was not the nanban type but rather a somewhat crispy style, which suited the convenience store chicken gangjeong that inevitably requires microwave cooking! ㅎㅎ

It was a menu where you could enjoy the sauce, mayo sauce, and karaage at a reasonable price and quantity. It could be said to be at the level of a decent lunchbox franchise. Of course, it can’t be compared to homemade, but you can understand it as meaning the taste is okay. ㅎㅎ

It wasn’t extremely amazing, but it was a decent cost-effective lunchbox, and it was filling enough to enjoy as a simple meal. The difference from the convenience store karaage I used to eat is that it actively uses nanban sauce, giving it a slightly salty feel?

There are no particularly sharp points, and if you try to save the karaage too much, you might end up with some left, so feel free to enjoy it! If you need a simple meal, don’t hesitate to choose it!
