[Korean Food] 2026 Lucky Burger Gold Special (McDonald’s)

Today’s new McDonald’s menu item is the Lucky Burger Gold Special, returning once again in 2026. It’s back without fail for the 2025–2026 season as well. This year, it’s drawing even more attention with esports star Faker as the model. Starting December 26, 2025, McDonald’s began selling two options: Lucky Burger Gold and Lucky Burger Gold Special. The Lucky Burger Gold Special is a version that boosts satiety by adding a hash brown to the existing build, so I’m going to review this one this year. Let’s take a look at what it’s like.

2026 Lucky Burger Gold Special price and highlights

This is the Lucky Burger that launched again this past year-end, just as always. Like last year, there are two versions: Lucky Burger Gold Special and Lucky Burger Gold. The Curly Fries and Gold McFizz lineup is also the same. One difference is that the default drink in the combo appears to be a regular soft drink. Prices are as follows.

Compared to last year, prices are up by about 300 KRW overall, which seems in line with inflation.

This time, I ordered the Lucky Burger Gold Special as a large combo, and I chose Curly Fries instead of regular fries. You can, of course, switch back to the standard French fries as well. Most importantly, keep in mind that 100 KRW per Lucky Burger sold is donated.

2026 Lucky Burger Gold Special components

Let’s quickly check what’s inside. Originally, this was a year-end/holiday-season item sold in places like Malaysia and Singapore, and it made its way to Korea and settled in as a seasonal year-end menu. Thanks to its approachable bulgogi-style sauce flavor, it’s become a familiar favorite that people enjoy every year without feeling out of place.

The Lucky Burger uses a long sesame bun and comes with a pork patty, bulgogi-style sauce, aioli, a hash brown, lettuce, and onions. The Special version adds an extra hash brown.

As a build, nothing has changed from the Lucky Burger sold in 2024 or even earlier. It’s a safe, crowd-pleasing setup, and it has its own fan base, so there isn’t much reason to change it.

Looking at it closely after cutting it in half, it’s exactly as described: aioli and veggies on top, hash brown, and then the pork patty with bulgogi-style sauce. It’s still a very straightforward build. If you’ve been getting it every year around the holidays, it should be just as easy to enjoy this year too.

2026 Lucky Burger Gold Special taste

Let’s dig in. Since the components haven’t changed, the flavor should be the same this year too, but because it’s a menu that comes out like a yearly routine, I’m oddly excited to try it again for the first time in a while since my 2023 review.

Overall, it wasn’t far off from what I expected, which was quietly satisfying. The nutty, crispy texture of the hash brown, the filling portion, and the reliable pairing of bulgogi-style sauce with the patty are all still there. Even as a kid, I had a soft spot for items like galbi-style burgers or bulgogi burgers, and this still has that flavor that just fits.

That said, it’s also true that for anyone who didn’t reach for the Lucky Burger before because the bulgogi-style sauce tastes too sweet, that can still be a downside. In the past, there was also a Lucky Burger Red, and McDonald’s has made plenty of good sauces, so it’s a bit of a shame that we didn’t get more variety in flavors this year.

Also, the pork patty can be pretty polarizing. I like this tteokgalbi-style patty, but plenty of people don’t. Still, for those who look for the Lucky Burger every year-end, it’s the same familiar taste, and even with the slight price increase, I think it still has all the reasons you’d come back for.

Personally, I enjoyed it again this year. If you eat in-store rather than ordering delivery, the value feels solid, and even considering inflation, it doesn’t feel like the price jumped too dramatically. Thinking back on McDonald’s items released this year, there were plenty of elements to play with—like the Toowoomba sauce and jalapeño cheese—so I’d really love to see those kinds of variations come out alongside it next year.

And with the Lucky Burger, Curly Fries are basically the classic pairing. Eating the Lucky Burger really makes it hit home that year-end is here more than other menu items do. There’s also an Instagram photo event running as part of the Lucky Burger promotion, and the giveaway for a Faker autographed jersey runs until January 16, 2026, so it could be worth checking the details and entering.
