[Korean Food] Chef Choi Hyun-seok’s Spicy Cream Jjamppong Emart24

Hello! Today, I am introducing a new cup noodle menu from Emart24, which is the newly released Spicy Cream Jjamppong by Chef Choi Hyun-seok(최현석 셰프의 매운크림짬뽕) from the Chef’s Kick series. Chef Choi Hyun-seok, who has previously collaborated with Emart24 to present mainly Western-style menus in the Chef’s Kick series, has now introduced a cream jjamppong menu! This is good news for those who love spicy food but hesitate because it’s too spicy! Let’s find out what this menu is all about.

Price and Features of Spicy Cream Jjamppong

Although Chef Choi Hyun-seok doesn’t only cook Western cuisine (he has also introduced many Korean-related menus in collaboration with Emart24), this time he has released a menu that feels a bit different from previous ones! This menu has been researched for a long time before its release, so expectations are high. Especially since the spicy taste and rich cream flavor are the highlights, it’s good news for those who can’t handle very spicy food! The price is 1,800 KRW.

The recommended cooking method for this menu is definitely using a microwave! The instructions specify that the additional seasoning packet must be added after cooking!

Adding Additional Seasoning Packet After Cooking

While it can be cooked with boiling water, it’s recommended to add the seasoning and hot water up to the line, cook in the microwave for 2 minutes, and then add the additional seasoning packet without draining the water. The total content is 110g, with 470Kcal, and sodium is 83% of the daily recommended intake, making it slightly saltier than regular ramen. It seems to be because it’s a jjamppong-style ramen.

Components of Spicy Cream Jjamppong

Let’s take a quick look at the components! Since it will be cooked in the microwave, the lid has been completely removed. It contains noodles and two types of seasoning packets.

The spicy cream jjamppong powder seasoning should be added with hot water during cooking, and the additional seasoning packet should be added at the end after cooking and mixed well.

Of course, there are also toppings included under the noodles! It contains simple dried meat and bok choy pieces. Generally, such menus might skip toppings, but it seems they paid attention to these details!

Cooking Spicy Cream Jjamppong

First, I added the jjamppong seasoning on top of the noodles before pouring hot water. Then, I filled it with hot water up to the line and cooked it in a 1000W microwave for about 2 minutes.

After cooking, a jjamppong ramen with quite a red broth is completed! The aroma is strong and spicy, and after tasting a bit, I was surprised that it tasted quite good even on its own. Of course, it’s very spicy! Haha, I added all the cream seasoning.

After adding the cream seasoning, it looks like this! I’ll quickly mix it before the seasoning clumps or hardens and taste it.

Taste of Spicy Cream Jjamppong

The seasoning is somewhat thick, so it doesn’t dissolve well at first, but as you mix it, it eventually dissolves! The broth becomes slightly cloudy, and a slightly pungent cream aroma rises, covering much of the spiciness!

If you take a bite right away, the spicy jjamppong broth mixed with the cream seasoning makes the initially too spicy taste much milder, allowing you to enjoy it with a slightly thickened broth and added spiciness.

Of course, the spiciness has been significantly reduced, which I liked, but this taste might be polarizing! Haha, if you liked cream-style ramen (like the previous mala cream ramen), you might find this ramen quite tasty too!

Still, I first scraped up all the noodles and ate them, and despite the spiciness, the umami was excellent, making it easy to eat!

Eating just the noodles was quite good, but I also found the broth surprisingly decent. However, it was a bit too salty to finish it all! Those who prefer a spicy broth style might not like this thick broth!

Overall, if you don’t focus on the broth, you can enjoy the jjamppong! It was a good menu for a simple hangover cure or to eat with light kimbap without being overwhelming. I bought it during a 1+1 event, so I have another one, and it seems like a menu I’ll eat again soon! If you like spicy broth dishes with cream, it’s worth trying at least once!
