Hello! Today, I’m introducing a new ramen menu from Emart, a collaboration between the web variety show Ramen Kkondae and Jeju Samdasoo, called Gosarong Ramen. Inspired by the bracken ramen created by artist Kim Poong and chef Yoon Namno, this unique menu includes Jeju bracken powder and bracken directly in the ramen! Although bracken ramen recipes have been somewhat known before, I think this is the first time it’s been commercialized like this. Let’s find out what this menu is all about!

As bracken ramen was slowly fading from memory, it regained popularity when a scene of boiling it with Jeju bracken and Samdasoo was aired on the web variety show ‘Ramen Kkondae’. This product is a collaboration between Emart and Samdasoo. Naturally, this product is exclusively available at Emart, and the price is 4,880 won.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netMy name is Gosarong Ramen. Initially, I thought bracken was a Jeju dialect, but it turns out the name ‘Gosarong’ was created by combining bracken with the Jeju dialect ‘Kosarong’, meaning savory.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe soup contains 2.1% Jeju bracken powder and 4.7% dried bracken! Considering the total amount of soup in the ramen, it might be quite a lot. Naturally, I was curious to find out that Samdasoo is not included in the product composition. Haha, since it’s a collaboration with Jeju Samdasoo, there might be a possibility of giving away water at Emart24.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe cooking method suggests boiling with 500ml of Jeju Samdasoo, then adding the noodles and powder soup and boiling for about 4 minutes. After cooking, add the post-addition oil sauce and stir well before eating. In fact, 500ml is the most accurate amount when adding a bottle of mineral water to cook ramen!

The case of connecting ramen introduced in its variety show to product planning reminds me of the Ssamjang Ramen introduced in the past on ‘Europe Outside the Tent’!

Adding more might turn it into bracken yukgaejang. Haha.

Let’s start cooking right away! I’m planning to cook two, so I prepared about 900ml of water. Once the water starts boiling, I added the noodles and adjusted the ramen soup to about 90%.

Let’s taste it right away. It’s been about 2-3 years since I last made and ate bracken ramen myself! While making ramen, I skipped making it into a recipe because it felt too simple, but I’m quite curious about how this menu will turn out!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netWhen I cooked and ate bracken ramen myself, it felt a lot like bracken yukgaejang ramen, but this menu seems to have adjusted that aspect well, and the bracken that comes up occasionally adds to the flavor! The ramen base was quite spicy, and the oil sauce was also spicy, so the spiciness was quite noticeable and deliciously spicy. Haha.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netHowever, the bracken was not the usual dried bracken but was a bit tough and prickly. It wasn’t inedible, but the amount was quite a lot, so it was a bit noticeable at times. But if you remove it, the flavor of the bracken might be a bit lacking!

Especially as a hangover cure, it seemed really good. It wasn’t a thick and rich broth but a refreshing and clear yet spicy taste!
