Hello. Today’s new Seven-Eleven lunchbox is Matjeil Duck Bulgogi & King Dumpling Lunchbox. In December 2025, Seven-Eleven launched the “Matjeil” series with CJ as a promotion. After the earlier Spam Arrabbiata, they introduced a more easygoing option this time. It pairs duck bulgogi with a king dumpling. There have been almost no new convenience-store lunchboxes this December. Still, this one was quietly enjoyable. So, let’s take a closer look.

Matjeil Duck Bulgogi & King Dumpling: Price and Key Features

This is a full lunchbox release from the Matjeil series. The concept is “duck bulgogi made with Beksul seasoning sauce and a juicy king dumpling.” The pairing feels a bit unusual. Still, it sounds like something you would enjoy if it is there. The price is 5,500 won.

The total weight is 400 g. It has 685 kcal, and sodium is about 48% of the daily recommended intake. The sodium is lower than expected for a convenience-store lunchbox. Also, the duck is said to be domestically sourced. As for the king dumpling, it looks like they simply used Bibigo’s product.

Matjeil Duck Bulgogi & King Dumpling: What’s Inside

Let’s quickly check what comes in the box. This lunchbox has 6 compartments and 8 items. The mains take up 2 items, and the sides make up the other 6. Overall, there is a lot of rice. Meanwhile, the side dishes feel lighter than expected.

Main Items

For the mains, the real stars are the king dumpling and the duck bulgogi, just like the name suggests. That said, neither portion is very large. The king dumpling is not fried. It is steamed and placed in as-is. The duck bulgogi also looks smaller than expected.

Side Dishes

The remaining sides are half of a long sausage, pan-seared tofu with a light drizzle of sauce, a small meat patty, stir-fried kimchi, stir-fried mushrooms, and a sweet pumpkin salad. There are many different items. However, each one is a small portion. Since the sides are more like add-ons, it feels like a light and easy meal.

To be honest, the king dumpling and duck bulgogi are not especially standout. Overall, it does not feel that different from typical lunchboxes with 6 or 7 side dishes. When you think about it, this seems less about a unique flavor. Instead, it is meant to be a safe, filling meal.

Matjeil Duck Bulgogi & King Dumpling: Taste Test

Now, let’s get to the tasting. If you set aside the CJ collaboration angle and the duck bulgogi concept, it is an easy lunchbox to eat without overthinking it. The overall lineup also feels better than expected.

How the Duck Bulgogi Tastes

I started with the duck bulgogi, one of the main items. Since it says they used Beksul seasoning sauce, I expected a sauce made specifically for duck bulgogi. However, it was just the standard spicy-sweet pork bulgogi-style sauce. Because of that, it tasted much closer to spicy stir-fried pork than duck bulgogi. It honestly made me chuckle.

The portion is not big, and there is a generous bed of chives underneath. So it is gone in just two or three bites. That left little impression. Still, among the side dishes in this lunchbox, it is one of the few that is properly seasoned. So it works fairly well with rice.

King Dumpling and the Sides

I had some expectations for the king dumpling. There are fried dumpling options, and Bibigo also has very juicy, bold dumplings. However, this was not that kind of dumpling. It tasted exactly like it looks: a basic king dumpling, simply steamed. Also, getting only one dumpling feels a bit disappointing.

In fact, compared to the king dumpling, the sausage and the small meat patty felt more worth eating for a convenience-store lunchbox. They are familiar, and they taste exactly as you would expect. So they were easier to enjoy.

The pan-seared tofu was also decent when eaten with the sauce. Somehow, this lunchbox ends up feeling a bit backward. The sides are more enjoyable than the items listed as the mains.

Overall Verdict

Overall, it feels like the CJ collaboration put more focus on items like pasta, triangle kimbap, and kimbap. Because of that, this kind of “proper meal” lunchbox ends up in an awkward spot. It is not bad as a reasonably filling lunchbox. However, the concept feels unclear. So the question, “How is this different from the usual lunchboxes?” does not go away easily. Still, it works fine for a single meal. Next time, I hope they at least deliver a more convincing duck bulgogi.
