Hello. Today’s new GS25 lunchbox menu I’m introducing is Guam Cube Steak & Fried Rice. Just from the name, it’s a lunchbox with a concept that feels a bit unfamiliar. Apparently, it’s a collaboration with the Guam Visitors Bureau and Naver Pay to recreate a local Guam-style menu. It’s not exactly a combo you’d immediately associate with winter, so I got curious and picked one up. Let’s take a look at what it’s like.

Guam Cube Steak & Fried Rice Price and Features

It’s common to see convenience-store lunchboxes collaborating with various brands, but partnering with an organization like a tourism board is pretty unique. The concept is said to be a lunchbox version of a Chamorro night market BBQ platter, timed for winter overseas travel demand. It’s not something that immediately clicks, but since I’ve never been to Guam, I’ll just take their word for it. Haha. This one is priced at 5,300 won.

The total weight is 401g, with 619 kcal, and sodium comes in at about 81% of the recommended daily intake. In terms of portion size and calories for the price, it’s about average. Since it includes fried rice plus several side dishes, the sodium does run a bit high. Still, it should be a filling meal.

Guam Cube Steak & Fried Rice Components

Let’s quickly check the lineup. This menu comes with kimchi fried rice and a total of four side dishes including a sausage. In a way, it’s closer to a multi-side lunchbox or a set-meal style lunchbox.

The main item, the cube steak, uses imported pork shoulder, and the sauce is a BBQ rib sauce. It’s not quite that “char-grilled pork platter” vibe, but even as cube steak, it feels like a pretty solid main.

I expected the fried rice to be something like Shirley’s or a similar style, but it was really just straight-up kimchi fried rice. So I looked it up, and apparently some Guam BBQ platter spots sell kimchi fried rice for Korean tourists instead of seasoned fried rice. I learned something new today.

The rest includes pasta stir-fried with a light teriyaki-style sauce and served with sautéed cabbage, plus simple cucumber pickles and a sausage.

To really feel like a platter, it probably needed a bit more meat, but it’s a convenience-store lunchbox, and as a single meal, it doesn’t feel lacking.

Guam Cube Steak & Fried Rice Taste

Now, let’s taste it. I started with a spoonful of the kimchi fried rice, and there wasn’t any extra seasoning added to it.

I wondered if it might have some Guam-style seasoning, but it was a very straightforward kimchi fried rice. Haha. The base seasoning level was well balanced, and the bits of kimchi throughout were decent for a convenience-store item. Still, it was a little less savory than homemade.

Next, I tried the cube steak. Surprisingly, it did have a “grilled once” kind of feel, and the BBQ rib sauce pairing worked pretty well. If it had been done carelessly, it could’ve ended up like random meat chunks with instant meatball sauce, but this felt like they put some thought into it.

That said, don’t expect an intense flavor. It’s more like: among typical convenience-store lunchbox sides, it’s a bit more carefully done than I expected, rather than being strongly teriyaki-like. Comparing it to real barbecue would be unfair.

The other sides were all easy, safe pairings to eat together. I’m not sure if that pasta dish exists as an actual menu item, but the flavors surprisingly worked well and the overall composition was nice. The sausage also paired well with kimchi fried rice, which doesn’t really include meat or ham.

It’s hard to say this lets you “experience Guam by proxy,” but if you think of it as a solid convenience-store lunchbox for a meal, it’s a satisfying, easy-to-enjoy option. Looking back after eating, nothing felt overly polarizing, so it seems like something most people could enjoy without strong likes or dislikes. It should be a pretty good pick for a quick meal.
