[K-Food] Egg Pasta & Egg Fried Rice Ottogi X CU Sesame Ramen

Hello! Today, I’m introducing CU’s new lunchbox menu, which is a collaboration with Ottogi, featuring Sesame Ramen Egg Pasta and Sesame Ramen Egg Fried Rice. Following the popular collaboration product, Yeol Ramen, this is a new sesame ramen collaboration menu after a long time. It emphasizes the flavor of sesame ramen soup and adds an egg flake concept, launching as pasta and fried rice menus. It’s been a while since a collaboration menu, and I usually like these kinds of menus, so I’m looking forward to it. Let’s take a look at what kind of menu it is.

CU Lunchbox New Product Introduction

Sesame Ramen Egg Pasta Price and Features

Recently, Seven Eleven collaborated with Ottogi’s Spaghetti Ramen, and around the same time, CU collaborated with Sesame Ramen, making me curious about what’s going on. Let’s first take a look at the Sesame Ramen Egg Pasta! This menu is said to be a pasta that captures the spiciness and savory taste of sesame ramen, with plenty of scrambled eggs and green onions. The price is 4,800 won. The total content is 356g, with a calorie count of 668Kcal, and sodium is at 85% of the daily recommended intake. It’s quite filling.

Although it’s called sesame ramen, people seem to remember the egg flakes more than the sesame oil soup, so it seems like a lot of scrambled eggs were added. It seems that a separate sauce was used in addition to the existing powder for this collaboration menu. Also, with ingredients like green onions and sesame oil, which are more suitable for Korean cuisine than pasta, it seems to be a bit of a fusion style.

Next, let me introduce the Sesame Ramen Egg Fried Rice. This menu also has a concept similar to the pasta, with plenty of eggs capturing the spiciness and savory taste of sesame ramen. The price is 3,900 won, similar to other rice bowl lunchboxes. The total content is 235g, with a calorie count of 542Kcal, making it suitable for a simple meal. Sodium is at 66% of the daily recommended intake.

This menu also includes scrambled eggs, with rice and dumplings on top! The fried rice seems to have a taste closer to Chinese cuisine, except for a slight ramen flavor. I’m really curious about the taste.

Let’s briefly look at the composition of the two menus in order. First, when you open the lid of the egg pasta, the abundant scrambled eggs catch your eye!

At 4,800 won, many cream carbonara menus usually just add a bit of bacon, but this has more eggs than expected. However, the lunchbox container is somewhat small, so I’m a bit worried about whether it will mix well.

Of course, they used liquid egg rather than real eggs, but the shape of the scrambled eggs seems to be relatively well implemented. Given the concept, it seems like this is the first convenience store lunchbox menu with so many scrambled eggs included!

The noodles use various ingredients like sesame oil, green onions, and sesame ramen sauce, but I’m not sure if the strong taste of ramen will come through. Since it’s pasta, it’s hard to expect a very spicy taste, but a bit of spiciness might go well with the eggs!

Introducing the egg fried rice. This menu is a modified version of the existing rice bowl menu, so it includes a plastic spork.

When you open the lid, you see a simple fried rice with two fried dumplings on top. I thought scrambled eggs would be piled on top of the rice, with dumplings on top of that, but it doesn’t look like that.

Upon closer inspection, the rice and scrambled eggs are stir-fried together, with some vegetables and sesame ramen sauce added. I’m curious if it will taste like ramen fried rice with ramen soup added. Haha.

Taste of Sesame Ramen Egg Pasta

Let’s first taste the egg pasta. After cooking it in the microwave, I mixed the scrambled eggs and pasta well.

There was definitely a lot of eggs, so I spilled a bit while mixing. It was fine at home, but if you’re eating at the office or outside, it might be good to slightly support the bottom with the lid while mixing. The eggs are a bit clumped together!

After mixing and taking a bite, it slightly feels like the taste of sesame ramen, but it’s not as strong as expected. There’s a bit of ramen taste, but the unique spiciness is somewhat lacking, and it feels more like a ramen taste. Haha.

Perhaps because of the sesame oil, the taste is quite savory, and with the addition of ramen flavor and eggs, it felt somewhat mild. Honestly, aside from the large amount of eggs, it didn’t really feel like sesame ramen! And come to think of it, sesame ramen itself isn’t that spicy.

If you erase the word ‘sesame ramen’ from your mind, you might enjoy it as a decent fusion pasta. The scrambled eggs are quite abundant, so even after eating most of the noodles, there’s a lot left, making it a menu where cost-effectiveness doesn’t really come to mind!

Taste of Sesame Ramen Egg Fried Rice

Next, let’s taste the sesame ramen egg fried rice. This time, after microwaving, I first tasted the dumplings!

The dumplings seem almost similar to the meat dumplings used in Chinese restaurants. They have a bit more meat content than the glass noodle dumplings from snack bars. The taste is savory!

Then I took a spoonful of rice. The ramen flavor wasn’t as pronounced as expected in the rice itself. It was seasoned like typical convenience store fried rice, with a slight ramen flavor.

Still, it wasn’t as salty as expected, so it was very easy to enjoy! It seemed like it would be quite decent when eaten with the slightly salty dumplings!

Egg Flake Features Review

Of course, as a single item menu, it felt a bit lacking as a meal, but in terms of cost-effectiveness, it wasn’t. It was unexpectedly mild, making it quite suitable to enjoy with other side dishes!
