Hello. Today’s new Paldo ramen I’m introducing is Sangnamja Ramen Garlic Yukgaejang Flavor, a variation of Namja Ramen. In the overall ramen market, it doesn’t quite stand out because of strong competitors. However, within Paldo’s lineup, it’s a product that gets a lot of push after the Wang Ttukkeong and Bibim Men series. This time, they launched it with a slightly unique concept: yukgaejang plus garlic. The spicy, rich broth and the fairly bold garlic aroma worked well. Let’s take a closer look.

Sangnamja Ramen Garlic Yukgaejang: Price and Key Features
This product launched around late December 2025, and it features baseball player Lee Jung-hoo as its model. These days, convenience stores and brands alike are doing a lot of baseball-related marketing. Also, compared to the original Namja Ramen, this version is said to increase the proportion of pork bone broth in the soup base. That should make it richer and heavier-bodied.
I bought it through an online grocery pre-order for about KRW 4,900. Without discounts, it’s around KRW 6,000. With deeper discounts, it seems to drop to about KRW 4,500.

Namja Ramen has always been known for strong garlic and aromatic vegetable notes, so it’s a product that can split opinions. In that sense, adding garlic to the noodle dough is pretty much the same as before. However, they significantly increased the garlic presence in the soup components. As if that weren’t enough, they even added a garlic essential oil finishing packet. So yes, the garlic aroma is definitely there.

This pack contains 132g and has 555kcal. Sodium is about 88% of the recommended daily intake. While it’s not drastically different from typical ramen, the soup base seems fairly rich. That likely explains the high sodium level.
For cooking, use 500ml of water. Add the noodles, powdered soup base, and dried garnish mix, then cook for 4 minutes. Finally, add the finishing packet.

Before cooking, let’s quickly check what’s included. As shown in the instructions, this ramen comes with four components: noodles, powdered soup base, dried garnish mix, and a finishing packet.

Looking at the powder, it’s not as intensely red as I expected. If you taste a tiny bit, you do get a subtle garlic note. Still, it’s not striking. Most of the garlic flavor is probably in the finishing packet.

The garnish mix mainly contains dried shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, and carrots. I wondered what the yellow bits were, and it turns out it also includes egg flakes. The garnish itself is fairly standard. I expected even dried garlic, but apparently not.

Last is the finishing packet. As with most finishing packets, it’s added after cooking so the aroma doesn’t evaporate during boiling. That means most of the garlic aroma and garlic essential oil are likely concentrated here. If you’re sensitive to garlic, you may want to taste and adjust as you go.

Now, let’s move straight on to cooking. After preparing boiling water, I added the noodles, powdered soup base, and the dried garnish mix all at once. Then I cooked it for 4 minutes. You can tell it’s from the Namja Ramen line because a bit of garlic aroma rises up, but it wasn’t overly strong at this stage.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netHere’s how it looks once it’s done. Overall, it doesn’t seem dramatically different. If you taste the broth, it actually feels closer to the original Namja Ramen.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netI cooked two packs. I used just under 900ml of water and added about 80–90% of the soup base. With that in mind, I’ll also add only about 80–90% of the finishing packet.

Now, let’s taste it. Before eating, I stirred well so the finishing packet I sprinkled on top could dissolve evenly into the broth. The packet dissolves more easily than I expected. Once mixed, a very strong garlic aroma rises up.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netFirst Bite: Spicy Broth Meets Bold Garlic
With the first bite, you get a mouthful of peppery heat and a rich, spicy broth. Then the garlic aroma spreads in a heavy, lingering way. Since they increased the pork bone broth portion, the soup feels slightly thicker. With the garlic on top, it tastes even more intense.

ⓒ
Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netHonestly, as you keep eating, the garlic aroma takes up more than half of the overall flavor. You might even forget it was meant to be “yukgaejang.” The yukgaejang concept seems to lean on the pork bone base, but it doesn’t stand out strongly. Instead, the nonstop wave of garlic aroma is the main highlight.

Of course, that’s also why it can be polarizing. The garlic aroma is so strong that it may feel different from the ramen flavor you’re used to. On the other hand, if you already like garlic-forward ramen, or if you’re a fan of Namja Ramen itself, you’ll probably enjoy it a lot.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe broth is quite rich, so it also seems great for adding rice. Even though the garlic aroma is strong, it’s not extremely spicy. It also doesn’t sting or burn because of the garlic. So it isn’t too heavy. It’s just a bit peppery, and once you get used to the garlic aroma, more people may like it than you’d expect.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netFinal Thoughts
I found it pretty approachable and tasty, but I’m not sure how everyone else will feel. With moderate heat, a peppery broth, and a deep garlic aroma, it felt slightly different in a good way. If you’re looking for a solid ramen, it’s worth trying as a refreshingly different new release.
