Hello. Today’s new Seven-Eleven lunchbox is the Spicy Jumbo Chicken Drumstick Set Meal. It’s a fully original menu that Seven-Eleven is rolling out for the first time in a while. The concept seems influenced by GS25’s Edward Lee Whole Chicken Drumstick Lunchbox and the older Wanjeon Keu Dak lunchbox. Going further back, it also feels related to Seven-Eleven’s past Spicy Chicken Drumstick lunchbox. It was pretty spicy, but I still enjoyed it. Let’s take a closer look at what it’s like.

Spicy Jumbo Chicken Drumstick Set Meal Price & Features
This is Seven-Eleven’s new original lunchbox, released with the concept of “jumbo-sized spicy chicken drumstick.” There have been similar spicy drumstick lunchboxes before. Still, the lineup here is quite different, and the price point and concept also feel distinct. Most importantly, this one is specifically labeled “jumbo.”

The total weight is 370g, with 760kcal. Sodium comes in at about 65% of the daily recommended intake. Just like the name suggests, it includes an actual “spicy jumbo chicken drumstick.” It somehow reminds me of the frozen drumsticks used in Sase products. We’ll be able to tell more once we look at the components and taste. The drumstick itself is sourced from Thailand.

Now, let’s quickly go over what’s inside. This lunchbox has one large main compartment with items like the drumstick and pasta. It also includes three small side dishes. The rice portion is fairly generous. Given the lineup, it seems meant to be eaten with the salty sides.

The main compartment includes the spicy jumbo drumstick, one mini pork cutlet, and pasta stir-fried once with an unidentified sauce. Looking at the drumstick, it really does seem like the one from Sase. If it tastes the same too, then it probably is. The “spicy drumstick” sold at convenience stores from time to time is typically that Sase product.

There’s a light sprinkle of furikake on the rice, but it probably doesn’t change much. The side dishes are small portions of stir-fried kimchi, corn and cheese, and stir-fried Vienna sausages. Nothing here is especially unique. Still, it looks like they chose familiar sides that most people can eat without issue. The corn and cheese feels like it was added to pair well with the spicy drumstick.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netOverall, the lineup is pretty straightforward. It feels designed so you can focus almost entirely on the drumstick. That said, for KRW 5,600, there are a few disappointing points. Still, if the taste is decent enough, it may be fine.

First, I’ll try the spicy jumbo drumstick right away. Since the whole meal can easily be judged by this one item, I had to start here. The breading is fried fairly well, and the crunch is okay. It also pulls apart easily with chopsticks.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netDrumstick Flavor: Exactly Like the Usual Sase Convenience-Store Drumstick
After the first bite, it felt like my guess was right. It tastes exactly like the one sold in the convenience-store chicken section, so nothing else really comes to mind besides Sase. From the seasoned, spicy coating to the lingering, slightly numbing heat, it was that exact flavor.

Since the chicken is a bit spicy, it’s nice to have corn and cheese in between bites. However, it’s really just about one spoonful, so it doesn’t help much. If there were more of it, the overall balance might have been surprisingly good. As it is, it’s a bit disappointing.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe other sides don’t do much beyond being something to nibble on. That’s typical for this kind of menu. If you want them mid-meal, you can eat them then. Otherwise, you just alternate them with the chicken once in a while. Think of them as filler sides chosen to avoid strong likes or dislikes.

The pasta placed under the drumstick had extra seasoning, so it was reasonably edible. It tasted like something close to yakisoba sauce or a soy sauce-based sauce. Compared to mixing pasta with a vague tonkatsu sauce, this one works better as a side dish.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netPersonally, I don’t often eat this kind of chicken as a drinking snack because the aftertaste can be a bit spicy. Still, with rice, it was unexpectedly easy to eat. It would have been even better with one more simple side dish for balance. Since the corn and cheese portion is so small, it feels like the sides were included mainly to round out the tray.

As a Seven-Eleven original menu, it was decent, but there were also some letdowns. If you already like similar drumstick products sold at convenience stores, you’ll probably enjoy it without much trouble. Even though the value for money feels a bit lacking overall, it still works fine as a filling meal.
