The new menu from ‘Puradak Chicken’ that I will introduce today is a collaboration with Chef Jeong Ji-seon, who became famous as the black and white chef! It’s the exquisite Kanpung! Recently, over the past year, many spicy chicken menus, especially those using Kanpung sauce, have been released by chicken franchises! Since it’s oven-fried, it was challenging for ‘Puradak Chicken’ to try Kanpung, but they have developed a new menu! Let’s take a look at what kind of menu it is.

Puradak Chicken Exquisite Kanpung Price and Features
As the summer season officially begins, many chicken menus related to snacks are being released, and ‘Puradak’ continues to release menus under the concept of ‘Chef’s Chicken’ rather than side or event menus. This time, it is said to be a recipe developed by Chef Jeong Ji-seon, following the previous Napoli Mafia ‘Napoli Toowoomba’, making it the second chef collaboration menu. I’m quite looking forward to it!

This menu basically comes with only one chili mayo sauce! The price for the main chicken + sauce + pickled radish + one can of cola is 22,900 won for the basic menu, 25,900 won for the wing combo, and 26,900 won for the boneless. The boneless menu is a bit pricey, but… well, it’s ‘Puradak’, so it is what it is.

Puradak Chicken Exquisite Kanpung Composition
Shall we unbox it right away?! Most of the Kanpung chicken menus released are often spicy or stimulating, so I expected this menu to have a strong spicy pepper aroma, but it doesn’t seem to be as spicy as I thought.
I ordered the boneless menu first! The chicken seems to be mixed with enough sauce once. And true to ‘Puradak’, they generously topped it with Vietnamese dried chili, peanuts, and sliced garlic fries!

I haven’t tasted it yet, so I’m not sure, but even looking at the color of the chicken itself, it’s a menu with a slightly deep red hue, and even when you smell it up close, it seems more sweet than spicy. It feels like it has more spices, perhaps?

In fact, when you think about it, the original Kanpunggi isn’t extremely spicy. This is something you can’t know until you taste it, and looking at the amount of dried chili, it’s not easy to say ㅋㅋ However, judging by the promotional materials, it doesn’t seem to be a menu aimed at being particularly spicy.

Traditionally(?), when releasing such a menu, ‘Puradak’ tends to add a lot of toppings besides the chicken, and there is a considerable amount of peanuts and Vietnamese dried chili. Unlike the previously released ‘Consommezing’ menu, which could be eaten together, this one seems to have a rather bitter taste, so I might have to pass on the chili.

Puradak Chicken Exquisite Kanpung Taste
Let’s taste it right away to see what it tastes like. I ordered the boneless menu for a simple meal, so it might look a bit small, but it seems enough for two people!

I took a piece right away and tasted it! As expected, it wasn’t as spicy as I thought. Although there might be some variation among Chinese restaurants, it felt like it was made by a place that falls on the less spicy side!

The sauce also has a slightly sweet taste and captures the unique spice flavor quite well. However, if you’re expecting a spicy taste, it might be a bit disappointing! Although there is a lot of dried chili, fortunately, the unique bitter taste doesn’t come through much.

Since ‘Puradak’ boneless itself is oven-fried and uses chicken thigh meat, it’s a bit greasy, so it pairs very well with the sauce! It’s close to a grilled feel, so it’s chewy, giving a different texture from fried Kanpunggi. The sauce is a bit thick, so the chicken doesn’t get soggy easily, which is another advantage that shines here!

If you want to add a slight change to the slightly sweet taste, you can dip it in the accompanying chili mayo sauce. The taste isn’t particularly greasy, but if the sweet taste becomes overwhelming after frequent consumption, it would be good to have it together!

The peanuts are somewhat edible, but the dried chili tends to have a slightly bitter taste. The one I ordered had quite a generous amount of sauce, and as you go further down, the chicken gets soaked in the sauce, making the taste come through more strongly.

Everyone’s impressions may vary slightly, but if you consider that it’s not spicy, it’s a good menu for family meals and as a snack. However, since it has a slight spiciness, it might be a bit spicy for children!

Even after eating a few dried chilies, there are still so many left. ㅋㅋ Personally, I can quite recommend this new menu, and it shows that they put effort into developing it. Since it’s basically Kanpunggi and a menu that tries to recreate the Kanpunggi taste, it’s not an extremely special taste, but the basics are solid, so it’s a menu that I can recommend to some extent.
