Since the Truffle Mushroom Whopper has turned fall into a special (?) season for Burger King, this year’s series feels like it got a lot of attention. Naturally, the standard Truffle Mushroom Whopper and Deep Truffle Fries are back too. On top of the Truffle Mushroom Whopper introduced last year, two new items launched this time: the Maison Truffle Cheese Burger and the Truffle Mushroom Pie Royal. Let’s check the prices first.

From the outside, it doesn’t look very different from the regular Truffle Mushroom Whopper. However, the bun has reportedly changed from the usual Whopper bun to a brioche bun. The series used to rely on a truffle cream sauce, and this time it goes a step further by adding rich truffle cheese for an even heavier, more indulgent texture.

A Look at the Cross-Section

Now let’s cut it in half to see what’s inside!? To be honest, even cut in half, it’s hard to spot much difference from the previous truffle mushroom menus. When I cut it, though, I could definitely feel the soft texture that brioche buns are known for. Ha.

From the top, it has lettuce, onion, sautéed mushrooms with truffle sauce, truffle cheese, and then bacon and a Whopper patty. The inside of the brioche bun is toasted. With the previous Truffle Mushroom Whopper, the sautéed mushrooms felt a bit slippery when you cut it in half. This time, perhaps because of the cheesy truffle sauce, it felt much thicker and creamier. The cheese melts slightly and holds the mushrooms in place nicely. Ha.

Add the Truffle Mushroom Pie Royal and Deep Truffle Fries, and the aroma really stands out. If you love the truffle scent that Burger King’s Truffle Mushroom Whopper is known for, it’s worth enjoying this menu as a full spread like this.

Taste Test: A Richer Truffle Whopper

Of course looks and ingredients matter, but taste matters most, right? Let’s start with the main item, the Maison Truffle Cheese Burger. Being Whopper-based, it definitely feels substantial. Since the bun is brioche, it can feel a little thin when you hold it.

From the first bite, you can clearly taste a richer truffle aroma than in the earlier versions. If you liked everything about the previous Truffle Mushroom Whoppers but felt the sauce and vegetables didn’t quite come together, leaving it a little light or lacking, this one feels like the truffle cheese pulls the whole flavor together.

Results may vary by location, of course, but the Whopper patty came with a decent amount of grilled mushrooms. On top of that, the brioche bun makes it noticeably better than the dry texture you usually get with a Whopper patty. It felt like a genuine upgrade of the Truffle Mushroom Whopper I’d had before.

Price-wise, the burger alone isn’t much more expensive than the previous truffle mushroom items, so if you love truffle, I’d say go for this new item without hesitation. As the name suggests, the word “maison” (I think it means “house”…) gives it the feel of a luxury fashion brand, doesn’t it? Ha. Fittingly, it’s a menu where you can really taste the rich cheese and truffle aromas.

I also tried the side, the Truffle Mushroom Pie Royal. It’s like the existing apple pie, but with a little mushroom truffle soup inside instead. It was less greasy than I expected, so if you’re a fan of the truffle mushroom series, it’s worth adding one to your order. Ha.

Expectations for the Truffle Mushroom Whopper line

The Deep Truffle Fries were still a little salty, and they came with a generous amount of rich truffle dipping sauce. When I had them with the Truffle Mushroom Whopper before, they didn’t impress me much, but after adding the pie as well, it all got to be a bit much. Ha. I don’t think I’ll need to smell truffle for a while!

Final Verdict: A Premium Truffle Whopper Worth the Price

Personally, I felt this menu fully earns its price as the premium version of the Truffle Mushroom Whopper. At the same time, the price gap isn’t big, so at a fair price even for a new Burger King item (?), plus a discount coupon or two, you can enjoy it quite a bit. If you’ve been waiting all fall for the Truffle Mushroom Whopper, I strongly recommend trying it right away. If you’re visiting Korea in the fall, Burger King’s seasonal truffle menu is also an easy treat to fit in between meals.
