Hello! Today’s new find from Emart24 is a collaboration with the budae-jjigae specialist Ttangs: the Cheese Budae-bokkeum Pasta. (Budae-jjigae is Korea’s “army stew,” and budae-bokkeum is the stir-fried, brothless version.) I’d recently reviewed Emart24’s earlier Ttangs collab, a budae-bokkeum, and was genuinely surprised at how well it captured the real thing, so the moment I saw this one in stock I grabbed it. This one turned out quietly good too. Let’s take a closer look.

Cheese Budae-bokkeum Pasta: Price and Overview
As I noted with the last budae-bokkeum, there had been a budae-jjigae collab before this — Nolbu’s — but that was strictly army stew, and a budae-bokkeum was a first. This time they’ve reworked that stir-fry into a pasta. The same coupon promotion is back, so if you’re a regular at Ttangs, it’s a “no bad prizes” draw worth an entry. The price lands at 4,900 won, right in line with other convenience-store pasta singles.

For the price, neither the volume nor the calories feel lacking — if anything, it should leave you pleasantly full. Do note that the sausage runs much higher in chicken than pork. And a heads-up: this one is meant to be microwaved with the lid off.

Let’s run through the layout. The budae-jjigae sauce itself doesn’t seem much changed from the last budae-bokkeum. It’s pasta topped with the stir-fry sauce, then a single slice of cheese and a dusting of dried parsley.

ⓒ
Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netBeing a single item, the makeup isn’t complicated. The earlier budae-bokkeum topped things with half a slice of cheese, but here a whole slice goes in. There’s plenty of tasty cheese out there, yet somehow a plain slice just suits budae-jjigae — that’s the vibe.

ⓒ
Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe ham comes as two types: round frank sausage and square pressed ham. The sausage is listed as long frank, a product with more chicken than pork. The square pressed ham is labeled a smoke sausage, though beyond “some pork” there wasn’t much else to go on.

Time to dig in. I microwaved it for 1 minute 30 seconds at 1,000 W, then stirred the melted slice of cheese through the pasta. The cheese melted well enough to blend right in.

ⓒ
Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netI took a first forkful right away, and the impression was strong. The savory stir-fry sauce nails the budae-jjigae flavor, and with the cheese aroma on top, nothing felt missing. I like budae-bokkeum myself and have thrown together plenty of versions, but making it into pasta had never crossed my mind — enough that I found myself thinking I’d have to try it at home sometime.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netWorking the sausage in between bites felt plenty good too. Any worry that the sauce might run short never materialized — the portion was enough, and the flavor is so intense you don’t reach for anything else.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe one letdown, if I had to name it, was that there’s nothing to cleanse the palate. It’s literally budae-jjigae sauce with sausage and cheese stirred into pasta, so it’s punchy and salty, and with the cheese in the mix I started craving pickled radish or kimchi partway through. Get about halfway and you’ll immediately see what I mean.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe sausage is fairly generous and the sauce was plenty, so aside from that one issue of getting rich fast, it was more than worth eating. The value felt quietly good, too. Budae-bokkeum makes a great drinking snack or side, and eating it as a main dish is maybe a bit much — but if you love budae-bokkeum, you’ll enjoy this just fine. If you’re curious, it’s absolutely worth a try.

This Cheese Budae-bokkeum Pasta carries a specialist’s army-stew flavor over to a convenience-store pasta remarkably well. Stir the melted slice of cheese into the savory sauce and the first impression is bold, with the sausage generous enough to keep the portion satisfying. The catch is that it’s so punchy and salty that, with nothing to reset the palate, it gets rich around the halfway mark. Even so, the value is quietly strong, and for anyone who loves budae-bokkeum it’s an easy recommendation. If you’re visiting Korea and want a genuinely Korean fusion bite, keep an eye out for it at Emart24.
