BHC Curinkle Curry Seasoned Chicken Review [Korean Food]

Hello! Today’s new BHC item is the BHC Curinkle, finished with a sweet-and-spicy seasoning that layers a mild curry aroma with a creamy richness. It’s not exactly a summer-specific menu, and there’s no obvious reason to tie it to curry, but it feels aimed at the Minions & Monsters release and summer chicken demand. It’s essentially a revival of Curry Queen, which BHC launched around 2016 before it quietly vanished, and, at a list price of 21,900 won, a new curry entry that officially joins the Ppuringle Universe (Ppuringle being BHC’s signature sweet, seasoned chicken). So if you’re curious about the Curinkle, let’s get right to it.

📋 At a Glance

  • Product: BHC Curinkle (curry + Ppuringle)
  • Store: BHC
  • Price: 21,900 won list (24,900 won delivery; 23,900 won with the July discount)
  • Calories: about 2,619 kcal (261.9 kcal per 100 g)
  • Weight: size-10 chicken (about 1,000 g before cooking)
  • Sodium: 3,218 mg (161% of the daily recommended intake)
  • Included sauce: honey butter yogurt sauce (plus pickled radish)
  • Verdict: ★3.5 — a crowd-pleasing curry Ppuringle, though it’s salty and easy to tire of, so sauce choice matters.

BHC Curinkle: Price and Highlights

Since a menu called Curry Queen was launched and then discontinued a while back, this isn’t technically BHC’s first curry-seasoned item. But the fact that it’s been officially folded into the “Ppuringle Universe,” alongside BHC’s signature Ppuringle and Hot Ppuringle, suggests it isn’t just a one-off event release. First, let’s check the price.

  • Curinkle (standard): 21,900 won list (via the website) / 24,900 won delivery (Coupang Eats), or 23,900 won with the July 1,000-won discount event
  • Curinkle combo, 3&7 combo (7 wings, 7 drumettes, 3 drumsticks), boneless, and wings: 24,900 won list / 27,900 won delivery

Being BHC and a new release, the price runs fairly high overall. This Curinkle uses a size-10 chicken (around 1,000 g before cooking), at 261.9 kcal and 321.8 mg of sodium per 100 g, so the whole thing comes to about 2,619 kcal with 3,218 mg of sodium, which is 161% of the daily recommended intake (WHO) and makes it a rather salty menu.

I ordered this as the standard Curinkle. Order it and a honey butter yogurt sauce comes included by default. Compared with the old Curry Queen, which came with an actual garam masala dipping sauce, this one feels like quite a light sauce. For the record, unless you choose otherwise, there’s no drink, just the standard pickled radish. This isn’t new, but paying 23,900 won and getting no complimentary drink these days is a real shame.

What the Curinkle Looks Like

Let’s take a look at the makeup right away. Even before opening the box, the curry aroma is pretty strong. Open it up and, unlike the slightly pale-brown standard Ppuringle seasoning, you immediately see a very deep-brown seasoning generously dusted over everything. Whoa, the curry aroma is stronger than I expected!

First I moved it into a suitable bowl. True to BHC, the seasoning is dusted on quite generously. Unlike the cheese-based Ppuringle, this seasoning has a smooth cream richness that lifts the sweetness, while the curry handles the deep, exotic aroma and the spicy kick.

The overall impression from the aroma alone is right up there with simmering curry at home from scratch, so it clearly nailed the concept from the start. On top of that, chicken and curry is a combo that’s genuinely hard to get wrong, so I’m already looking forward to it.

That said, since the predecessor Curry Queen was discontinued for clear reasons, for this one to have staying power it’ll need a mainstream flavor rather than sheer novelty. Come to think of it, Curry Queen’s aroma was so intense it was like ordering an actual tandoori curry chicken, great for one go but a little iffy for a second or third round.

Taste Test: How Does the Curinkle Taste?

Let’s dig in right away. I picked up a drumstick coated in seasoning and took a bite, and over BHC’s signature crispy batter the curry flavor really rose up strong. And not just any curry, more like a very deep, concentrated one.

Still, it reads as slightly tweaked to suit a chicken seasoning rather than a “real curry.” There’s a fair amount of heat, but overall a touch of sweetness is layered in (the official site calls it a cream flavor), so it clearly carries a Ppuringle identity too. You can even catch a very faint hint of that signature Ppuringle cheese. The saltiness, meanwhile, is stronger than expected.

Overall, it feels like they held back the curry aroma a bit more than the predecessor Curry Queen. Instead, the nutty fried-chicken flavor blends nicely with the sweet-yet-spicy notes in your mouth. Rather than a plain curry-flavored chicken, it’s clearly moved closer to a curry-flavored Ppuringle. If you used to love Ppuringle but got a little tired of it, and found Hot Ppuringle too spicy, this might be just the menu for you.

The Included Honey Butter Yogurt Sauce

Here I also gave the included honey butter yogurt sauce a light dip. The sauce itself has a pretty sweet aroma, so it works well as a sweet-salty combo. That said, it feels like it could get cloying fairly quickly if you dip repeatedly.

Then again, since this is still a Ppuringle at heart, even someone like me who loves Ppuringle but tires of it quickly and can’t eat much may well find it easy to get sick of. Personally, rather than the honey butter yogurt sauce, I think the Ppuring-Ppuring sauce, the standard Ppuringle sauce with a bit of tang, would pair better. And if you want a touch more heat, ordering a separate spicy-line sauce could be a good move too.

Final Verdict: A Crowd-Pleasing Curry Ppuringle

Overall, I think this is a menu that dials down the curry flavor of the predecessor Curry Queen, brings out the Ppuringle taste, and secures broad appeal nicely. At its core it feels like a sweet Ppuringle seasoning with a big hit of curry laid on top. The aroma is similar to a typical curry chicken, but the flavor is a little different, so if you liked the existing Ppuringle series you can definitely enjoy this one. Just keep in mind it can get cloying easily, so I’d recommend choosing your sauce carefully. For anyone visiting Korea, it’s a fun way to taste Korea’s beloved seasoned fried chicken in a curry twist.

The biggest difference is that it eases off the curry aroma of the earlier Curry Queen and brings out the sweet Ppuringle taste.
