Hello! The new Burger King menu I want to introduce today is the somewhat unusual, seafood-loaded Burger King Boiling Seafood Burger. It’s a Burger King seafood burger that reinterprets the American Louisiana-style seafood dish “seafood boil” as a hamburger! It launched as a summer-limited menu at 9,200 won for the single item in-store, and you can pick the seasoning variation that suits your taste between two sauces: butter garlic and Diablo. Rather than just seafood ingredients, this Boiling Seafood Burger even adds a flame-grilled beef patty! The combination was more unusual than expected, so I was curious how its distinctive flavor would turn out. So shall we take a look at what this menu is all about?

Boiling Seafood Burger: Price and Features
This menu is said to reinterpret seafood boil, a seafood dish distinctive to Louisiana in the United States, as a hamburger! I got quite curious about how they turned a kind of braised-seafood dish with spicy, salty Cajun-style seasoning into a burger! This menu was launched as a summer-limited item, and it comes in two flavors — butter garlic and Diablo sauce — so you can choose according to your taste. Let’s check the price!

I ordered via delivery, and I went with the Boiling Seafood Burger in the butter garlic flavor.

So let’s check the composition of this menu. The burger size seems almost similar to the Whopper size! It feels heftier than expected. Looking at it from the side, the first thing that catches your eye is the thick seafood patty!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThe most important part of this menu, the seafood patty, is said to be made by frying a base of crab and shrimp with added potato and corn! Just hearing the makeup, it almost sounds like the round assorted vegetable fritters you sometimes see at snack shops. Haha. The seafood patties I’ve come across so far usually used only a crab or shrimp base, so this part is quite unusual, isn’t it?

Let me cut it in half and take a closer look at the composition. First, as I mentioned in the intro, this menu contains not only seafood but also a beef patty, so the makeup itself is quite substantial! From the top down, it’s arranged as lettuce, whole shrimp, butter garlic sauce, the seafood patty, and then the beef patty. It seems the Cajun sauce, one of the biggest features of a seafood boil, wasn’t included separately!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netThere are about four whole shrimp in it! It looks like they used cocktail shrimp, slightly smaller in style than Burger King’s existing Whole Shrimp Whopper. Even though the seafood patty already contains crab and shrimp, adding whole shrimp on top is still a plus point, I’d say! If you look closely at the patty, you can faintly see bits of potato and corn, right?

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netHonestly, judging by the composition alone, it feels more accurate to see it as a beef hamburger with an assorted seafood fritter patty rather than as a seafood boil. It also made me curious whether the Cajun flavor went into the patty! Since it’s a seafood patty after all, this part is probably going to be a bit divisive!

So let’s taste this menu right away! For starters, depending on your palate, it might be a bit divisive! It’s not bizarre, but the composition is a little unusual, so you really need to taste it before judging. First, I took a bite right away!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netTo give the conclusion first, it was somewhat far from the seafood boil flavor I had in mind. There wasn’t quite that clinging sense of Cajun powder, the richness of spices that also suits Korean palates, or the distinctive savory seafood umami. The seafood patty’s taste was closer to a somewhat complex shrimp fritter patty, I’d say? It also had a bit of a vegetable fritter feel.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netA Complex Flavor and Choosing the Sauce
On top of that, with the beef patty, the seafood patty, and the whole-shrimp topping all added, the flavor is quite complex — but it doesn’t feel like they go together amazingly well, so there were moments that left me a bit puzzled. It wasn’t to the point of tasting bad, but it felt a little like each part was doing its own thing.

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netOn top of that, it even made me wonder whether the butter garlic sauce in this menu was really there at all… so if you’re going to have it, I thought you might be better off going with the Diablo sauce version. I even figured that at least some heat would probably pair better with the seafood!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netIn conclusion, the distinctive seafood patty’s character is just too strong, and with the beef patty and shrimp added on top, they each assert themselves too much; conversely, the main sauce, butter garlic, is so bland that you can’t tell whether it’s there or not — so the overall balance wasn’t really a great one, I think. Of course, this may feel a little different depending on the eater!

Copyright PAKOC https://pakoc.netVerdict — Experimental, but the Whopper Is Still the Root
It’s something I feel every time I review the experimental menus Burger King occasionally puts out, but Burger King seems to keep coming full circle to the conclusion that the Whopper is the foundation. This menu, too, had quite strong experimental elements; if you’re curious about the seafood patty’s flavor, it’s fine to try it once including the discount, but it doesn’t seem like a menu with meaning or value beyond that. Still, if you do have it, I’d suggest choosing the Diablo sauce.

Q. How does the Boiling Seafood Burger taste? Should I pick butter garlic or Diablo?
Personally, the seafood patty tasted closer to a shrimp-and-vegetable fritter, and the beef, whole shrimp, and butter garlic sauce felt like they were each going their own way, so the balance wasn’t all that great. The butter garlic is rather bland, so if you do have it, I’d recommend choosing the spicy Diablo sauce.
