Burger King Teriyaking Crisper Review [Korean Food]

Burger King Korea seems determined to be known for something other than the Whopper, because chicken burgers have been arriving steadily since the Crisper line first launched. The newest is the Burger King Teriyaking Crisper, a teriyaki chicken burger that pairs the crisp Crisper patty with a house teriyaki sauce built on kelp for maximum savoury depth. It costs 6,200 won on its own in store and runs only until 3 November. Teriyaki sauce is not a combination you often see with a fried chicken patty, so I was curious enough to order one. Let’s take a look.

Teriyaking Crisper: Price and the Pitch

Korea’s chicken burger scene is crowded, with KFC, Mom’s Touch and Popeyes all making a decent case, and Burger King has kept releasing into it. With the Shanghai burger, known here as the McSpicy, losing momentum, Burger King has carved out real share on the chicken side. The build looked so simple that I assumed it would be a permanent item. Somewhat surprisingly, it only runs until 3 November. Here’s the pricing first.

  • Teriyaking Crisper in store : 6,200 won single, 8,400 won combo
  • Teriyaking Crisper on delivery (Coupang Eats) : 7,200 won single, 9,900 won combo

The teriyaki sauce here is not an off-the-shelf product. It was built around kelp and similar umami ingredients to push the savoury notes and to sit well against a chicken patty. Nothing in the advertising mentioned it, but the ordering screen flags the burger as mildly spicy, which only made me more curious. A teriyaki sauce with heat in it is not an easy thing to picture, is it? I ordered the Teriyaking Crisper as a regular combo.

What’s in the Burger

Let’s run through the build. Calling this the existing Crisper with the sauce swapped out would not be far wrong. Perhaps because of that, the deep brown teriyaki sauce is the first thing you see once it’s out of the wrapper. There’s a good amount of it too.

The Rice Crust Patty Does the Heavy Lifting

Maybe that’s why, judging by appearance alone, it’s genuinely hard to guess how this will taste. What is obvious is that the crispy patty, with its clear crunch, is as solid as ever. The rice crust that gives it more bite than the chain’s other patties is fairly well known by now.

Cut in Half: The Layers

Let’s slice it open for a proper look. Almost identically to the regular Crisper, from the top you get white sauce, onion and lettuce, then the Teriyaking sauce and the Crisper patty, with a slightly thick pickle and another layer of Teriyaking sauce right at the bottom.

The Crisper patty already leans a little salty on its own. On top of that, looking back over the range, everything except the BLT has come with either a sweetish or a spicy sauce. So how a teriyaki-based Teriyaking sauce fits into that is the interesting question.

Taste Test: How Does It Actually Taste?

Let’s eat. The first thing that registers is the fried crunch of the Crisper patty. Right behind it comes the clean flavour of chicken breast, then a rush of deeply savoury teriyaki sauce. One thing is certain: this is not the teriyaki sauce I’m used to.

Heat Arrives Before the Umami

The official material talks about kelp delivering a wave of umami. What I noticed first, though, was a distinctly peppery warmth. Something close to black pepper, if I had to name it. Nothing numbing or fierce, but definitely a flavour with character.

The Fundamentals Are Solid

Since the base is still teriyaki sauce, it never soared far beyond expectations. What it does have is genuinely sound execution. That signature sweet-and-salty teriyaki balance works well here. I had worried before eating whether teriyaki sauce would suit a chicken patty at all, and on that count you can order with confidence.

The Heat Builds as You Go

One caveat: the heat accumulates as you eat. Early on there was no sting or burn, so I assumed it would stay gentle. That quiet warmth does build, though, and younger primary-school children would likely struggle with it. Order this expecting something like a bulgogi burger and you may be caught off guard.

Final Verdict — Worth Keeping on the Menu

Set that aside and this was a satisfying burger overall. A simple build, an unusual teriyaki sauce on top of it. Above all, the price never felt steep for a Burger King release, which made it easy to eat casually. Anyone who likes a sweet-and-salty chicken burger should get on with this one nicely.

As mentioned, this only runs until 3 November, so if you’re curious it’s worth moving quickly. Fans of the existing Crisper range, and anyone who likes teriyaki flavours the way a bulgogi burger delivers them, will find it an easy order. That sweet-savoury depth really is good. Honestly, I’d be happy to see it join the Crisper line permanently. If you’re travelling in Korea, note that this one is not on the menu abroad.

Details on the house sauce built with kelp and other umami ingredients, along with the run ending 3 November, appear in this (Korean source) Food Today report on the Teriyaking Crisper launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much is the Burger King Teriyaking Crisper?

6,200 won on its own in store, or 8,400 won as a combo. Ordering through Coupang Eats pushes that to 7,200 won and 9,900 won.

Q. Is it actually spicy?

Mildly, and the ordering screen does flag it. There is no sharp burn, but a peppery warmth builds gradually as you work through the burger, which is worth knowing if you’re buying one for a child.

Q. How long is it available?

Until 3 November only. The build is simple enough that it looks like a permanent item, but it is a limited run, so plan accordingly if you want to try it.
